Pakse, Laos, May, 2013
For many tourists Laos is famous for two things: it’s wonderful ecosystem and it’s relaxed atmosphere due in great part to the friendliness of the people who inhabit this corner on earth. And even here on this ” corner” there is even a smaller place , a 50,000 inhabited town by the name of Luang Prabang , that seems to concentrate the best of what we have learned to love about this country in it’s 20 km periphery .
Turquoise waterfalls of Kuang Si Falls that draw magnificent landscapes that could have only designed by the mother nature. A selection of food that flirts with your stomach as soon as you see it in the famous night market. The boutique guest houses where the owners may call themselves mama and papa just to make you feel at home. Or the excited children in the streets in front of the magnificent Haw Kham Royal Palace Museum that never loose an opportunity to make your day by welcoming you to their town screaming at you with joy and pure love “Sababaidee” which means hello. In the end you will discover that there is more to this place than it’s title of World Heritage Town.
In sum staying in Luang Prabang a former capital of the kingdom by the same name, can be one of the most pampered experiences you could ever live while travelling. And even though there is not a single hotel with more 4 stories high do not worry about the quality of the service, the whole town will make you feel like a king. Whether you decide to stay in a really cheap room or a luxurious bed with A.C. After all we will all meet at the night market for one of those 10,000 kip (around 1.5 USD) all you can load plates in the night and Beer Lao to celebrate in this one of a kind boutique vacation town.
