Giant Panda breeding and research center
I squeeze my nose against the window. I am only a centimeter away from the cutest living being: a Panda baby. The cub walks through his playpen, hugs his sleeping mates and constantly tries to climb outside to look at the visitors on the other side of the window. The guard is quite busy with his cute baby.
The cubs are probably the main attraction in Chengdu’s Giant Panda breeding and research center. Visitors can learn a lot about their favorite animals here. In the museum and the cinema we learn about their artificial and natural breeding. We see the kilos of bamboo that they eat daily and watch a seldom phenomena: Panda twins. In nature the mother usually only breeds one of her cubs but thanks to human help there have survived several twin couples in Chengdu. There are Giant Pandas and Red Pandas in the center. The Red Pandas live in a big enclosure and can even cross the footpath for visitors.
Each Panda has his personal character, special eating habits and notable features. We are surprised to read that pandas are as old as crocodiles and turtles.
Most visitors visit the Chengdu Giant Panda breeding and research center in the early morning when the Pandas are not too sleepy. Those who bring a big amount of extra-money can even hug a panda!
